Adriatic Coast | Sun Sea Relax

All over the world the Adriatic coast is well known for its sunny beaches and excellent tourism, it is really an ideal environment for family vacations, ideal for sailing, renowned for the variety of seafood dishes, and a must for all yachting enthusiasts. Adriatic coast is one of the most beautiful in the whole world; the medieval cities mingle with the modern night life, the sunniest beaches in Europe change in the evening in a cultural heritage full of concerts, theater, and performances. Slovenia has Portorose, Piran, Koper, and Izola as the main Adriatic Coast resorts.

The Adriatic coast with its charming Mediterranean towns, the Secovlje salt works, first mentioned in the 13th century, with nearly 200 bird species, and Portorose (Portorož), mentioned in 1251, which offers numerous modern hotels with congress halls, a fully equipped marina, a sport airport, thermal baths, a casino, and many summer entertainment, cultural, and sport events.

The Slovenian coast is an attractive tourist region, considered to be the cleanest and most beautiful in Europe with many ports; in fact it is one of the sunniest parts of the Mediterranean. It is relatively close to the major towns in Europe, it can be quickly accessible from neighboring states, with many ways to travel to.


Izola | Slovenia fishing history culture

Izola (Isola d’Istria) is an old fishing town on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The old town stands on a limestone peninsula jutting into the sea from a small plain. The new town developed on this plain, linking the old town with the nearby settlements. An old Roman settlement known as Haliaetum stood on this site as early as in the 2nd century. The town itself was established by refugees from Aquileia in the 7th century. After Koper, Izola also came under Venetian rule. (more…)

Portorose | Slovenia Casino Sea and fun

Portorose (Portoroz) is the main Slovenian sea resort; it has been the sea in fact, together with the Mediterranean climate and salt-works, to make of it a tourist destination adapted to all seasons. The natural healing factors, like the mud from the salt-works and the sea water, were in fact used, according to the tradition, already by the roman soldiers and in XIIth century by the Benedictines of the monastery of S. Lorenz. The thermal station began to develop in 1885 when it was constructed a small hotel and a building in which talassoterapia was practiced. Today the “Bay of Roses” is the most renowned tourist locality of the Slovenian coast, thanks to the elevated quality of the hotel offer, to the rich cultural and congressional activities and to the varied possibilities of entertainment, the first being the Casino. Piran | Slovenia medieval town

An ancient coastal town with a picturesque old town core. Of all the towns on the Slovene coast, Piran as a whole has the most original town architecture, with a partly preserved town wall with seven mighty towers, a symbol of the past power and pride of the city. In the centre of the town is Tartini’s Square with a bronze monument of the famous violinist and composer Giuseppi Tartini. (more…)

Koper | Slovenia port shopping history

The town of Koper was built on an island which was linked to the mainland in the 19th century by embankments. By draining the swamp area between the island and the mainland, the town acquired an extensive plain which has developed into a commer­cial and industrial center. (more…)
